It struck me yesterday that not everyone is aware of the catalogue that is available on the Lancashire Record Office website. It is searchable and I have found it extremely useful in planning my visits.
I don't think they have all of their holdings in the catalogue, I recently viewed the Chester Probate Index and the Richmond Probate Index at the LRO. The details contained in these books are not in the catalogue (it would be a massive job to index them all I guess)...wonder what else isn't? It seems to be a catlogue of the documents they hold but don't quote me!

It does say on the LRO site that work on the catalogue is ongoing and additions will be made regularly. I've just started using it.

On a different resource, I found out a few weeks ago, via the electronic group of the LFHHS, that I can become a member of the Lancashire Library and use the online reference resources. It was very easy and quick to apply and receive a number. I had to give a home library in Lancashire, Burnley in my case, and can pick up my ticket there if ever I visit.
