http://www.lancashire.gov.uk/education/ ... alogue.asp It struck me yesterday that not everyone is aware of the catalogue that is available on the Lancashire Record Office website. It is searchable and I have found it extremely useful in planning my visits. I don't think they have all of their holdings in the catalogue, I recently viewed the Chester Probate Index and the Richmond Probate Index at the LRO. The details contained in these books are not in the catalogue (it would be a massive job to index them all I guess)...wonder what else isn't? It seems to be a catlogue of the documents they hold but don't quote me! |

It does say on the LRO site that work on the catalogue is ongoing and additions will be made regularly. I've just started using it. On a different resource, I found out a few weeks ago, via the electronic group of the LFHHS, that I can become a member of the Lancashire Library and use the online reference resources. It was very easy and quick to apply and receive a number. I had to give a home library in Lancashire, Burnley in my case, and can pick up my ticket there if ever I visit. Joan |
