Thanks for that Kris. From being 11-17 yrs I lived just outside Blackpool in Staining, and went to secondary school in Blackpool----A lot of what is on the postcards was there then, very interesting. |

I never liked the laughing clown on the Pleasure Beach. And I must have been the only child who screamed and cried going through the Fairy Land on the front. I still don't like those sort of mechanical figures even today. |

I didn't like the laughing clown either. I remember the lions in the tower, as you say just pacing back and forth. We used to live in Staining where the Tower had the winter homes for the animals. My grandparents house used to back on to the adjoining field. Many times we would see horses which would have disappeared the week after----gone for the lions. |

My younger brother freaked out in the Noah's Ark. I had to go in and bring him out. I too remember the pacing lions in the tower zoo. I still love the sound of the trams. |

I'm off to Blackpool for a girlie weekend at the end of illuminations. It'll be my first time there for over 10 years! |

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a3jXMsfLxhI This reminds me of my late Uncle Jack, my grandma's brother. He used to live in Canada but came for a visit when I was about 13. We recorded him reciting this, still got the tape, somewhere. My eldest son had to recite this at a school concert when we lived in Suffolk. It went down a storm, seeing as he had a northern accent already, although I had to do a little bit of coaching. |
