Lancaster Assizes

The commission for the North Lancashire assizes will be opened on Monday next, before Mr Justice Pattison and Mr Justice Coleridge. The former learned judge will preside in the Crown Court, the latter at Nisi Prius.

John Walton, 27 (imp.), charged with having, at Briercliffe-with-Extwistle, cut and wounded Grattan Eugene McCabe, and William Parker, with intent to do grevious bodily harm, and also to resist lawful apprehension.

James Walton, 23 (imp.) charged with having, at Briercliffe-with-Extwistle, cut and wounded James Leaver, with intent to do grevious bodily harm.

There were other cases on the page but these were the only two for the Briercliffe area. There were other cases in between these two but I wonder if John and James were related?

Sounds a bit like the Briercliffe Krays to me. I wonder what that was all about?
