Post subject: | Exception From Toll - 1843 |
Preston Guardian Saturday 26 August 1843 Exception From Toll Yesterday week, Mr. Mc.Cabe, the superintendent of police, at Burnley, was summoned to appear before the magistrates at Haslingden, to answer a charge preferred by Richard Taylor, toll lessee, of having claimed exemption from toll at Crawshaw Booth bar, on the 8th instant, without legal ground of exemption. It appears that Mr. Mc.Cabe was riding in a gig, and had his wife with him, and that the toll-keeper demanded payment, which was refused by Mr. McCabe. Some doubts being raised about the liabilty, the case was adjourned. |
