When I mentioned bags of crisps being sold, they were'nt the ready salted, many flavoured variety of today, they were plain ordinary potato crisps with a little blue bag of salt (twisty top)inside, you opened it and put it on your crisps then gave your packet a good shake. They tried bringing the tradition back a few years ago it was a novelty for a while, but it did'nt really take off.

Now, 'pegging up', Stephanie, ought to be on the Dialect section ! I've not heard it in years, but then I don't live up north any more.

I'll try it out on my grandson : mind you, at 12 months he hasn't mastered the art of course, he just sits there grinning when he is pushed !

Hi, Mel. looks to me like you have cracked it. The position of the cottages seems to tie in with the info I have. Are there any publisher / photographer details on the card so I can try to get a copy, or could you possibly e-mail me a larger scan that I could print off at a decent size ? I am so grateful that you are still on the case after all this time.

The only mark I can see, and I don't know if it is a publisher mark, is where the stamp was. (A previous owner carefully removed it). It shows a horseshoe with the T.I.C.
I'll re-scan when I get home later and send it to you.

I've just had another look at the listing on the site I bought it from and the seller had written 'publisher unknown'. As a dealer in postcards, I'm sure she would have found a publisher mark.

Hi, Mel, thank you so much for the scan of the postcard. Have forwarded to the person concerned to print off. This is probably the only picture surviving of those cottages, and an interesting view of 1920's Lancashire, though I do wonder who decided to publish it as a postcard...... It's not the most scenic view, is it ? Having said that, the line of washing does add a certain something.... Joking apart, I am truly grateful to both yourself and a long gone postcard company. The cottages were there for best part of 50 years after that pic, so if you should come across any other pics, I would love to hear from you.

I found a picture of Jack Moores monkey in a book titled 'Burnley A Pictorial History'.
The picture is dated as 'early 1900s'. For anyone with the book, it's in the 'Sports and Pastimes' section. The pages don't appear to be numbered.

So....who's fibbing about their age?

Mel, I think Roger Frost would be quite interested in the photo of Jack Moore's monkey, when I spoke to him last year he mentioned to me that he did'nt have anything on Jack Moore's, but he wishes that he had, because he never got to go when he was a child his Mum would'nt let him.

Jack Moore and his momkey of course didn't live at Quaker Bridge, but at Holme End near the bottom of Barden Lane, and so near New Bridge in Pendle. I remember the monkey well, more than one no doubt over a periosd of years in the forties/fifties/sixties.
