My ancestors came from Briercliffe over 200 years ago and I have never visited your town but a name crops up on some documentation from time to time.Copy Bottom Briercliffe? Where or what is it?

Hi James,
I have never heard of it, and I have looked in Roger Frost's book and there is no mention. Tomorrow however, I should be seeing him, if he doesn't know, it doesn't exist or it's a misprint.

Must have been a misprint James, no one has heard of it. The suggestions as to what it could be are
Lane Bottom
Catlow Bottom
Have you any other clues? What documentation have you seen it on?

Thank you for the replies.I received some information from a friend on Genesreunited. It concrened Robert Bradshaw born 1st Aug 1845. His mother Grace Bradshaw nee Stansfield died a month later on 31st Aug 1845. The Certificates for these 2 events gave the address as Copy Bottom Briercliffe. Does this information help in any way?

I have found it on the 1871 census. RG10/4152 folio ? page 6. There is a John Whip living there on this census.

Spelt Coppy Bottom, it is near to New House, New Bridge and Boulsworth End.

I have looked at a couple of pages of the census, and the route the enumerator has taken, Copy Bottom has to be at the bottom of Thursden near the river.
Found it--go on http://www.old-maps.co.uk/indexmappage2.aspx
Burnley, Lancashire and Furness co-ordinates 390700 434700
Bottom right hand corner, heading up away from Thursden up towards Widdop.
