Abraham was a Widow when married 14 November 1863. No father listed. I think his Mother was Olive Leaver (b. 20 Aug 1816), daughter of Bannister Leaver (1780-1839) and Betty Whitaker.

Hi

I have only just discovered this forum and am really interested in what I have read so far as it brings back so many happy memories, and moreso when I read about people I know, or knew.

I do remember Marjorie (Shoesmith) very well, and have often wondered of her whereabouts over the years. I lived at 75 for a lot of years, and we grew up together, although she was a few years older than me. She did indeed live at 79 with her mother, Nellie, and moved to 73 after she got married I think. (I remember Auntie Nellie once giving me dinner of sausage and mash served up on a 'Bunnikins' plate, telling me if I ate it all there would be a surprise picture underneath the mash!). I'm afraid I don't remember your grandad Donald at all.

The previous tenants of 73 were Fred and Winnie Bamber with their two boys Malcolm and Stephen. They moved into Proctors Farm at the bottom of the hill and I think that's when Marjorie moved in. Fred passed away some years later, but whether Winnie continued to live at the farm I don't know. I don't know who the previous tenants were before the Bambers I'm afraid.

Marjorie's best friend was Sylvia Sunderland who was the same age, and later became a teacher at Haggate school. The Sunderlands lived in the shop at the end of 'skenning row' as it was known, and they late moved to the big detached house across the road higher up and across from what was 'Owd William's Farm'.

I will be interested to know about your parents now, particularly your mother with being childhood friends.
