I believe a relative of mine lived at Hollin Grove Farm in the 1700's, does anyone have any idea how I can find this out. I am not sure if he owned it or rented it. His name was James Kippax and he died in 1769. |

I think this would be a question for Roger at the next meeting. I've had a look through his book and can't find any reference. |

This site refers to the house as Hollin Greave. http://www.british-history.ac.uk/report ... =53154#n79 “In the northern part of Briercliffe are the houses called Windle House, Folds House, Burwains, Hollin Greave and Pighole;” |

What an interesting site, didn't know about that one. Footnote 35 refers to it as Hollin Grove. |

I also found this site which may be of interest. http://www.btinternet.com/~jim.britcliffe/article31.htm “His son Lawrence inherited Hollingreave. He was baptised at Colne on Novenber 28th, 1694, and succeeded to the family estate in 1723. In 1736 he had settled at Midhope in the parish of Gisburn, and soon afterwards sold Hollingreave estate. He married Mary Whittaker of the Castle Parish of Clitheroe, at Whalley, 13th August, 1719. She died at Gisburn, and was interred there on19th July,1778. He died in 1782 and was interred at Gisburn on the 17th June” |

Another interesting one. It refers to an ancient way which comes out on the Padiham/Burnley road beyond the recreation ground, we used to live on that track in a house we traced back to 'being there' in 1730. It was not far along the track from Clayton Hall, and it is reputed that Oliver Cromwell came along there. |

I have found Hollin Grove for sale on tinternet. Anyone interested should look at http://www.brodenlloyd.co.uk/property_details/Hollin%20Grove%20Farm%20FinalVersion.pdf Unfortunately, I can't guarantee that the above link will work if and when the house is sold. |

One of them is a converted barn, you will have to drive around next time you come up for a meeting. Or, perhaps you have already done that. |
