I wasn't really sure where to post this topic but here is as good a place as any....

The Empire Theatre in Burnley was in the news recently due to the dangerous state it is in. Read the article at this link. http://www.burnleyexpress.net/news/loca ... -1-5715149

Cliff, one of our forum members, has kindly sent us some photographs of it. They can be found here http://briercliffesociety.co.uk/Photo%2 ... ldings.htm

Another beautiful building allowed to fall into disrepair

Thanks Mel for brining this to the attention of members.

We must all have fond memories of this theatre, my Grandfather took me and yes sat in the 'God's' ( which is where I discovered I suffer from a fear of heights   ) and of course at 5 years old, couldn't see what went on down on the stage, but, it was his treat for me.

Have of course been there since but had no idea the back was worse than the front!!!!!!!

Does the same person own all the property on that row? Everything is in a bad state and could be restored.

Wasn't there a local group some years ago trying to save it.

Doesn't my lottery spend each week that saves other buildings of value, stretch to what could be once again beautiful old buildings, or would our Bank of Dave' be worth contacting?????

Ideas PLEASE!!!!! It's our history we are talking about

There may be a little confusion here. The Empire was a cinema, and is the one in question. The Victoria was the Theatre (With the Gods) and was demolished many years ago.

The empire was used as a theatre my father was in the Burnley municiple choir and they performed choral concerts there ,I can remember going to hear them. Sylvia
