I wonder if it might be further back David. If you look at the one on the home page you can see the fence behind the cart on the right. Corrin House isn't there though, when was that built? The plot thickens---whilst Mels away, the mice will play :?

David, your challenge tomorrow, should you choose to under take it, is to stand in the road where the photo was taken from and tell us what you can see. Better still take a pic so we can compare. Bearing in mind to keep your eye out for horse and carts.

I already have done see link. And Corrin House is shown on the picture with the two horse and carts on. Just compare the roofs of the buildings,Corrin House is the one with the "thingymejig" on the apex of the roof.

But it isn't on the other one taken from further back down Burnley Rd.
Is the house jutting out on this picture the one past Corrin House?

She didn't quite sneak off - she's having serious internet problems, possibly due to flooding at he exchange. BUT she can't offer any constructive ideas because
1. She's only an apprentice
2. She's very young and doesn't know anything about Haggate in days gone by
3. She's only been to Haggate about 5 times in her life (and 2 of those were funerals!)

David , have you got Rogers book The Lancashire Township, page 147. I reckon the house which can be seen in the distance (on pic taken down Burnley Rd) is the one on the right, the chimney is the same. He says in his book that the reading rooms were built in 1877, which is not long after the corner shop 1861. I think the corner shop is hiding behind the Sun Inn, but you are going to prove me wrong aren't you

If you look on Page 147 of Rogers book Gloria there is a good photo of the reading rooms and the building further down Halifax Road. That is the building I think that is the one that sticks out on the other photograph. The bchimmney pots are the same.

ps I believe you Portia thousands wouldn't

How did that post get on Gloria I posted the same thing about page 147.I was just about to say the same thing,If you compare photos the one taken from down the road I think the corner shop is set back and is hidden by the corner of the Sun Inn.The garden walls are the cottages next to the Reading Rooms. Sorted
