There used to be an Edmondson St that ran down the left hand side of the Caanan (spellling) as you look at it from the road. So you may be right David with Edmondson Row.

I have just been on live maps to look at that and all the area behind there looks like a scrap yard it is a disgrace. You cant see it from the road thankfully. In answer to your question I don't know who owns it,but when I passed today about a dozen hens were strutting about in front.

It's been like that for as long as I can remember. I feel sorry for the people living in the lovely end terrace next to it. You would think the council would make whoever owns it tidy it up. I wonder what on earth is inside the building??????

I quote from Roger's book in 1982.

" Jehovah Jireh, now sadly in a dilapidated condition,is used as a garage and store for a local firm of hauliers and coal merchants. There was a plan, over twenty years ago, to purchase the building for conversion to a Catholic Chapel of Ease but, unfortunately, nothing came of it and yet another building intended for the worship of God is gradually being eroded by the ravages of time.I wonder what the founders of this little chapel on the hill would think of it now."

And 25 years later nothing has changed!!!!

I remember now. It was used by the coalman years ago. I wonder why no-one has done anything about it? Obviously still in use because of the chickens.

Would it be a baptist chapel?

It was Free Gospel or Independent Methodist. It opened in 1888 and closed for worship in 1942.When it closed there were only 6 members and the building was sold to a Mr Buck for £250.

The end terraced house is two knocked through into one, it is owned by the daughter of the lady who owns the caanan. The coalman was the owners husband. The building is now used by her son for storage.

We asked Roger tonight where Folley Row was. It was in the region of the Hare and Hounds as suspected.

Gloria,I found the attached photo which shows what was Edmondsons Row.You can clearly see the blocked up shop doorway on the corner and also the large window next door that you refer to as being the cloggers shop.
