Roger showed us a pic of a large clog set out from the wall above the shop.
Also the end shop had a door ( on Burnley Rd, not the one right on the corner) which is now no longer there, from which stairs ran upstairs to a large room which was used for prayer by a breakaway group from Haggate Baptist Chapel.
AND, Burnley Rd used to be called Mire Lane and ran all the way down to Swamp Top, which was just above where Lanehead school is now.

Wonder if Mire Lane referred to the quagmire that streets were like years ago and ended at the bottom of the hill in a swamp. :lol:

Would have thought so. I asked why it was so named and got that sort of response. Hadn't given any thought to the reason for the name when I asked the question, then thought what a stupid question it was :wink:

The breakaway group was known as the 'Nutter Church'.
