I have heard of pumping but not a term my family uses.
Bene and hot - better without the hot
Heard of all except pozzy.

My Granddad Woodvine had some strange lingo and I have often wondered if it was unique to him or if it was Burnley talk. Jam was referred to as Pozzy (Pozzy and bread or Pozzy, cheese and bread) Flatulence was pumping (who pumped?) Whinging was scricking (stop your scricking) Foreign muck was any food that wasn’t English (ooohh…(shakes the head) don’t want no Foreign muck) There were others Bene and hot (Benedictine with hot water) Face could stand clogging (discussed on another thread). Granddad used to say this for Barbara Streisand Itais and Jerry's – Italian’s and German’s Naught – Don’t want something (Naught want that) Term of endearment – Pettle or chicken |

I haven't heard of pozzy, pumping or scricking, but have heard of all the rest. Pity my Grandad is no longer with us, he was a mine of info on Lanky lingo. Could the scricking be scriking (said as "eye"), as in crying for nowt in particular, ---"What you scriking about"? Besides petal and chicken, there was also "flower". Mel, is it in Stoke where they call everyone "Lovey". |

The only one I haven't heard of is pozzy. I have heard of pobs, but that was bread and milk (i think) |

Kris's grandad could drink anyone under the table and he particularly like his bene n 'ot. I'm sure I've heard it said that he was known as the Bene King of the Miners' Club. |
