Welcome to the site Keith.

Is this local dialect for Lancs? It's very similar to potteries.

I lived in Harle Syke till I was 13 years old the saying comes from my maternal grandmother Nora Ingham ex weaver
who lived on Cross St., so its Lancs to the core the spelling is mine though !! The question is did the Haggate teachers from Miss Hutton to Mr Proudfoot teach me to spell reet proper. One more saying comes to mind " theres nowt so queer as folk" :D

I may be getting confused. I've been immersed in both for so long now

This link goes to a cartoon strip that features in the local paper here in Stoke. It's called 'May un mar lady". Some weeks I have great difficulty in reading it. The dialect is dying out in the younger generations.
