Post subject:  dead before I was born... !!

All eight of my great grandparents died well over ten years before I was born : my parents were in their late thirties, but the same applies to my sister who is ten years older than me (well, you know what I mean !). Who can remember any great grandparents ? Commoner now than in the past presumably with increasing longevity, though couples do maybe on the whole tend to have their families later nowadays.

Great-great grandparents ? My father's cousin is over 100, and is a great-great-grandparent.

I saw a six-generation photo in the press once, in other words the oldest was a great-great-great-grandparent.

I have my own such photo, artificial, of course. It could now be made into eight generations.

I expect someone out there could beat that... ? You will probably need to be like me, getting your pension soon, if not already !

I can remember my gt grandmother on my Mum's maternal side, and my gt grandfather on my Father's paternal side.
My gt grandad was alive when I was well into my teens and I remember him very well. My gt grandma was a little lady in black who died when I was very young. She was only tiny, but to a little girl she was quite a formidable sight all in black.

I only knew my two grandmothers, my grandfathers and great grandparents were all gone long before I was born in the 1970's.

I suppose the combination of younger parents and longer life expectancy could see great great great grandparents before long?

Whitehall Evening Post

Tuesday March 14 1780

There are now living near Newchurch, in Pendle-forest, Lancashire, a grandfather, and grandmother, two fathers, two mothers, two sisters, two brothers, two husbands, two wives, an uncle and aunt, a son and two daughters, a grandmother and neice, and yet only five persons.

Sound like Briercliffe folk to me - all married to each other.
Does it explain how you get so many relationships out of so few people?

Mine died:
63 years before I was born (old age, aged c.74)
59 years before I was born (leukaemia, aged just 31)
41 years before I was born (presumably old age, aged 71)
33 years before I was born (heart disease, aged 80)
25 years before I was born (old age, 81)
7 years before I was born (liver/kidney failure, 74)
4 years before I was born (old age and senile dementia, 88)
2 weeks before I was born (old age, aftermath of strokes, 80)

The tragedy is that I was born two weeks later than I should have been...!

The chap who died 63 years before I was born is such an odd character. First he marries a 42 year old woman when he is just 20. Eventually, she dies of old age in her 80s (no kids, obviously!). Following a suitable period of morning, his next wife is just 39 years old when he marries her, at which point he is 63, and 64 when he has his first child!

Must be in the genes; his son - my grandfather - was 39 when he married.
