Two fantastic images of the womens group and the mens group. Lots of people have been named for this photo. Many are familiar names.

(Can someone please check my spelling of Jireh...I don't have my Briercliffe bible with me!)

Mel, I just noticed that these two photos are of the same group, although the photos are slightly different.

Jehovah Jireh 1924-5

Unknown Group

What was the Jehovah Jireh?

Isn't it what is now known as The Caanan, just below Haggate on Burnley Rd.

From another thread

quote from Roger's book in 1982.

" Jehovah Jireh, now sadly in a dilapidated condition,is used as a garage and store for a local firm of hauliers and coal merchants. There was a plan, over twenty years ago, to purchase the building for conversion to a Catholic Chapel of Ease but, unfortunately, nothing came of it and yet another building intended for the worship of God is gradually being eroded by the ravages of time.I wonder what the founders of this little chapel on the hill would think of it now."

Isn't it the building opposite the school? I think I might have a picture somewhere. I'll have a look now.

Does this chapel have a place of burial? Harold and Arthur Leaver, two boys in the photo, lived and died at Harle Syke, but I cannot find a grave for either of them.

I take it they are not in Burnley cemetery then.

What about Haggate or St James?

They are not at Burnley or St. James. I presumed that they were buried at Haggate, but there is no gravestone. I might contact the Oaklands Nursing Homes to see if they have any details.

It doesn't mean they are not there Kris - you have seen the state of Haggate Graveyard. It might be worth having a look at the Haggate burials at Burnley library the next time you go up.

True. I have not really explored the newer part of Haggate.
