Oh, I see...

...so I'm a gravedigger am I? Ugh! And here was me, thinking I was all 'Time Team', finding bits of old church and that, but no...I was just disturbing the dead.

Apologies to the dead. :|

A quick check over something that's currently concerning me...

Haggate is a Baptist chapel, right. This means that people don't get baptised until they can consent. Not quite sure what age that is, but it's not the year of birth, is it?

But we have a baptismal register (or is it a births register?) for Haggate. I've taken the details of the various entries from this site, and added a few from the actual books at Burnley, but can't remember whether they stated 'births' or 'baptisms'. My query then is this; are they births that are listed, or are they baptisms, and if they are the latter, then does this not confuse us with regards to the actual birth dates of the people involved...?

Don't quote me.....but....I think they are births that are listed. Maybe Rex can confirm/correct this?

That's what I thought. But that would seem to be a pretty unique occurrence amongst any registers I've ever seen before! It seems to be working more as a Civic Record Office than as a Church if that's the case...!

In answer to your question last night Stephen, we do have some images of the interior of Haggate Chapel but not all that we saw last night. They are towards the bottom of the page on this link.

Also worth looking at for the Chapel is http://www.briercliffesociety.co.uk/Pho ... 20Love.htm
Trevor Coclough has been building a replica of the Chapel for over 30 years. I paid him a visit a couple of years ago to take pictures. It'sa beautiful piece of work. I wonder if the Chapel have asked to display it at their exhibition this weekend? (Friday and Saturday 10am to 4pm at Haggate Chapel.

Mel,

Thanks for the links, but it was more specifically the old (first) Chapel that I was looking for!

Impressive model-work though.

Great stuff, Mel!

These look as if they're taken from slides. Is that the case...?

I seem to remember Roger having two slides from inside the old chapel, too. Well worth keeping an eye out for as you trawl through his boxes!

They are. There are some really interesting images but it is a matter of sorting out which ones they are  And then, what is interesting to me, might not be to you

I have just borrowed a 4th box of slides from Roger though have not yet made a start on scanning them.
