The Yorkshire Hotel was originally the residence of the Foulds family (who later built Rishton Mill) with the garden in front, whose extent is still shown by the paving in front. Later, the officers of various detachments quartered at Lane Bridge Barracks lived here, amongst whom was Captain James Yorke Scarlett, of the 5th Dragoon Guards, who wooed and won Miss Caroline Hargreaves of Bank Hall. http://img128.imageshack.us/img128/117/ ... hiryr4.jpg |

James Yorke Scarlett married Charlotte Ann Hargreaves (not Caroline). Once married, Charlotte became Charlotte Scarlett! http://www.ormerod.uk.net/History/Hargr ... arlett.htm |
