Hi, I think this is the Parker's Arms Inn, 10/12 Croft Street, Burnley (closed 1958).

Can anyone confirm this?

Roger would be your best bet there I think Kris.

I had a look in the Burnley Inns and Taverns book but there was no picture for this pub

Thanks.

Will either of you be seeing Roger in the coming weeks? If so, perhaps you could show him this photo.

I think there is a meeting of the history society later this month, depending on the topic we may be going. If we do I will make sure to take it.
Failing that it might be worth an e-mail to Burnley Library.
We used to have a betting office (illegal then) on Croft St, when it was the old Croft St, it was up some stairs above (I think) a snooker hall, or at least near it, I don't remember ever having seen that pub though.

Good idea, I will send a message to the library.

I received this message:

This is currently in the local newspaper, it confirms it is the inn. http://www.burnleyexpress.net/peek-into ... 6535199.jp

The article mentions a postcard image which does not appear. Where the photo would normally be, I find a local furniture advertisement. Perhaps the image is blocked because I am in Canada? If there is an image, would it be possible to add it to this thread?

I always get the ad Kris, don't know why.

I get the ad too. I emailed Burnley Express last week to ask why they no longer publish the picture on the website, the ad has been appearing for a while.

No response yet - very poor service. I might contact them again.

I've emailed again to ask if they did not receive my original message or if it's poor customer service on their part.

I've received an email from the Burnley Express this morning in response to the message I sent to them today.
The website is going through a revamp which, it is hoped, will resolve technical issues that they currently have including the Peek into the Past images.

Ok, I thought it was because I am in Canada...

I received this message from Burnley Library.

The photograph you have of the Parker's Arms is the one in Colne. I
have attached the image from a book from the Images of England series on
Colne, compiled by Geoff Crambie.

Under the photograph the writing says "Church Street as it looked in
1895 from the top of the parish church tower. The two buildings on the
right are the Parkers Arms and The Fleece both built in 1665 and lost to
demolition in 1905"

In another book called "The History of Colne" by Dorothy Harrison she
says that when the inn, situated on 21 Church Street" was demolished it
was replaced by a larger inn which was later demolished by the Council
in 1938. The Parker Arms was built for the Parkers of Alkincoats.

There was a Parkers Arms Inn in Burnley and it was similar but the Colne
one looks the better option.
