Hi. I wonder if you can help me. I recently received the birth certificate for my Great Grandmother, Annie Ashton. The certificate states that she was born at the Mitre Inn, Habergham Eaves, Burnley. When I googled \'The Mitre Inn, Burnley\' one of the things google brought up was an item on your website, relating to the Mitre Hotel, Burnley. Is this the same place as the one listed on the birth certificate do you think? Incidentally, she was born in 1868. Her father was a Woollen Draper who travelled about selling his wares. Quite why the baby was born in an Inn is a mystery. Thanks for any help you can offer me. Margaret

I am pretty sure there was only one Mitre Inn in Burnley, could he and his wife have been staying there on their travels when their daughter was born?

In its day the Mitre Inn /Hotel would be quite an up-market place. Situated on the main road near some good quality terraced houses. The railway station 'Barracks Road' was about 100 yards away. Also there were plenty of weaving sheds on Trafalgar St. and in the Whittlefield area to buy direct from the manufacturers. I suppose why the baby was born there was one of the things that nature does now and again.
