As a new member I've been looking around the forums and found this Stanworth thread, and I see there's also a Parker thread. My aunt by marriage Annie Parker Cooper nee Stanworth, b1902 in the Burnley district was always referred to (rather disparagingly!) as Annie Blacko, which I take to be a reference to her place of birth, or where she grew up. Does the combination of Stanworth, Parker and Blacko ring any bells, please?

Sorry not with me Charon. The Stanworths and the Parkers go together in Extwistle, but I know nothing about them in Blacko.

Gloria,

thanks for thinking about it. I have remembered that Annie Parker Stanworth b1902 had a brother Clifford Parker Stanworth b1906 and wonder if his name might be any more connectable to your Stanworths than hers. Blacko's not all that far from Extwistle, after all!
Don't bother replying unless.......

I have been looking at the Stansfield (Mally) who married Benjamin Stanworth 21st June 1789 in Heptonstall. The only two Malleys I could find are Thomas and Abraham, neither of these names pass down to their numerous offspring, SO, I thought I would look for Mary Stansfield and I found one christened 30th August 1766 Heptonstall, father John. Now I know that is a common name but it does pass down that family and I cannot find it any earlier than him---does that make sense. So I am just wondering if this Mary could be the Malley (Mally) who married Benjamin. Thoughts?????

According to one website, Mally is a derivative of Mary. The year also sounds about right assuming she married late teens/early 20's.

Gloria, the full reference in the book for this Mary Stansfield is as follows...maybe this will help in narrowing it down?

CS 30 Aug 1766 Mary dau John & Susan tradesman Hay Head, S.

The CS indicates that the entry is a combination of the entries from both the Heptonstall and the Cross Stone registers.

S means Stansfield (place not name) which is on that 'map' I emailed you last week.

There are also the following entries from 1760 to 1775 -
1765 -Mary dau of Eli of Erringden.
1767 - Mally dau of Thomas of Wadsworth.
1767 - Mally dau of Abraham of Wadsworth
1769 - Mary dau of Abraham of Stansfield
1771 - Mary dau of John of Heptonstall
1771 - Mary base dau of Susan Crabtree of Stansfield. Reputed father Richard Stansfield of Stansfield

On IGI there are two marriages for a Mary Stansfield, one 7th Jan 1788 Heptonstall to Richard Hartley, and the other, 30th Oct 1791 Heptonstall to Zechariah Spencer. I was hoping not to find her, and then by process of elimination !!!!!!!!

Gloria, I ordered a copy of the marriage for you. The archives there are still in the dark ages, they do the print out and will post it to me. It should be here by the time if the meeting so I'll take it with me.
I didn't get chance to look for any Kippax I'm afraid. Whoever did the transcribing for the books I bought deserves a medal. The records were really difficult to read. Quite faded in places.
