Post subject: | STANWORTH - PARKER marriage, 1901 |
About a month ago, in the William Parker topic of the Census thread, I remarked that I'd more or less convinced myself that the parents of my aunt-by-marriage Annie Parker Stanworth b Q3 1902 were Abraham Stanworth b Q3 1875 in Burnley District and Catherine Parker b c1879 in Briercliffe. They were married at St Andrew's Burnley Q3 1901: it was Abraham's second marriage as he had previously (in Q2 1899) married Hannah East b c1876 who died in Burnley District Q3 1900. An A Stanworth of Springwood, Blacko is in the 'phone books at least from 1922 to 1952, and Annie's brother Clifford Parker Stanworth is at the same Blacko address in 1929. Abraham is a son of Stephen Stanworth b c1843 who appears in Gloria's tree as a younger brother of her 3Gg'father Joseph. In 1901 Abraham is a joiner and builder in Colne Rd Burnley: Stephen and his family are living not far away at 2 Stafford St in 1881, 1891 and 1901. This interests me as Annie Stanworth was later (1930) to marry William Cooper, a grandson of William Bannister who is living in 1881 and 1891 at 38 Stafford St/14 Elm St (adjoining houses on the corner, which I think were probably combined at some date between 1881 and 1891 to accommodate William Bannister's growing family and grocery business). I wonder if Annie Stanworth's and William Cooper's grandparents knew each other - it seems likely, at least, that the Stanworths were customers of William Bannister's shop - and whether the family contact was maintained for the intervening 30 years even though William Cooper's parents were away from Burnley from 1900 to 1917. Catherine is a daughter of Adam Parker b c1850, son of William Parker of Walshaw whom we had problems in tracing in the 1891 Census. Annie Stanworth's sister Margaret Parker Stanworth died earlier this year aged 88: Annie's two daughters and several grandchildren are still living. Gloria, have you already looked at the descendants of Joseph's siblings? (or have I got to do the work myself? ) Charon |

Sorry Charon I haven't as yet. Rightly or wrongly, I tend to follow direct lines unless I get stuck, then I might go sideways to find an answer. I have pm'd you a rootsweb connection which you may find interesting. |

I have received the following message via email. I do not have a question as such but I would just like to thank you and your contributers to the site. I found your site through the Lancahsire Family History Magazine. I am descended from the Stanworth Family of Extwistle and was very interested to find information on that family on your site. I would be grateful if you could pass on my e-mail address to any of your members who might have a connection to that family if that is at all possible. Once again thank you. regards Sylvia Wright. Should anyone wish to get in touch with Sylvia, please contact me and I will forward her email address to you. |

charon10 wrote: As a new member I've been looking around the forums and found this Stanworth thread, and I see there's also a Parker thread. My aunt by marriage Annie Parker Cooper nee Stanworth, b1902 in the Burnley district was always referred to (rather disparagingly!) as Annie Blacko, which I take to be a reference to her place of birth, or where she grew up. Does the combination of Stanworth, Parker and Blacko ring any bells, please? Charon Hi Charon, My grandmother was Annie Cooper nee Stanworth and she lived in Blacko with her sister Margaret and their father was a vicar.Does this sound familiar, Christina |

charon10 wrote: Gloria, thanks for thinking about it. I have remembered that Annie Parker Stanworth b1902 had a brother Clifford Parker Stanworth b1906 and wonder if his name might be any more connectable to your Stanworths than hers. Blacko's not all that far from Extwistle, after all! Don't bother replying unless....... Charon Just found the Clifford link Margaret and Annies brother was Cliiford. |
