I have a William Ormerod b 1806 [Hurstwood] m Sarah Barker in 1829. They are my 3 x Great Grandparents
The Ormerod Line is well documented, but Sarah's parents have until now been a complete mystery.
Recently a contact let me have a copy of a Death Certificate for George Harrison d 1883 aged 75, and registered by James Ormerod [Nephew]
James Ormerod is William's Son and I gather that following back George Harrisons line might lead to the Barker Family at Briercliffe and Extwistle - possibly Monk Hall in 1841.

Can any Barkers, Ormerods or Harrisons out there shed any light on this possible connection, please. Incidentally, James Ormerod whilst in Worsthorne was a Game Keeper, and so was George Harrison who lived quite near to Ormerod Road Burnley in 1881

Have you seen the 1861 census entry for Green Hill, Briercliffe?
RG9; Piece: 3074; Folio: 6; Page: 6

George Harrison Head, widr, 50, gamekeeper brn Extwistle
Grace Whitaker, sister, w, 66, born Extwistle

1851 seems to have him as a stonecutter lodging at Worsthorne. If it's the same man he's shown as unmarried, which might be a mistake, or might mean he was married and widowed between the two censuses.
Seems to me that the most likely connection is that George Harrison married a sister of either William Ormerod or Sarah Barker.

Also do you know where the Ormerod/ Barker marriage took place and could you get a look at the marriage records to find Sarah's father?

There is a marriage on IGI of a William Ormerod and Sarah Barker 5th Jan 1829 it just says Burnley. As the church in Worsthorne wasn't there until 1835 (I think), then I would have thought they would have gone to Burnley St Peters. Those parish registers are at Burnley library and Lancashire records Office at Preston. If you haven't seen the cert then next time I go to the records office I could have a look for you.

If you were at Preston and had time to look at the Parentage and Witness details, that might be quite revealing. I agree with your IGI interpretation.

The Ormerod's are well documented, but I have several reasons for wanting to NAIL the Barker Connection.

Thanks for your kind offer Gloria. I have investigated your earlier reply and there certainly seems to be a connection between Harrisons Barkers Chadwicks and perhaps even Todds. Time will tell.

I have Todds in my line and have done quite a lot of work on them. If you need any information or want to see if there's a connection let me know. Meanwhile, I'll see if any of my Todds married a Barker.

There is a Lancs BMD 1860 marriage between William Chadwick and Mary Barker - the transcript refers to Mary having been a Todd too. Probably a previous marriage. The couple live at Cliviger and are of farming stock. William born Cliviger, has roots in the White Rose County for his widowed mother Betty lives with them later in 1861. They are at Crow Holes Farm.

I must not lose sight of the fact that the reason I am looking at this family is that Thomas Barker [15] and Sarah Barker [4] described as Step son and Step daughter respectively are also at Crow Holes Farm in 1861. Thomas AGED 5, was in 1851 a Lodger with GEORGE HARRISON, with Robert Swain's family in Worsthorne.

Ormers, did you get anywhere with this line of enquiry? I am looking at a Sarah Barker who is the daughter of Robert and Betty of Banks. She was born 19 Nov 1808, she is listed in the church records for Haggate on the main site. I wonder if she is a contender for this marriage?

In 1851 there is a Mary Barker who fits with the details for Mary Todd/Barker/Chadwick lodging at
HO107/2251 folio 26 page 4 Barcroft, Cliviger. Her marital status is given as married.

There is a William Barker lodging a few doors away (well, 2 pages) HO107/2251 folio 24 page 2 Lower Walk Mill. His marital status is also given as married.

So, is it safe to assume that William and mary were a couple?

I am delighted that a correspondent of mine has nailed this long standing query.

Sarah Barker, was in fact Sarah Harrison b abt 1802 [daur of George Harrison and Betty Stanworth] who married James Barker, in Burnley 16 August 1821.
James Barker dies December 1825, and Sarah [Barker] then marries William Ormerod 5th January 1829 St Peter's Burnley.

The previous notes were in fact not far away from the truth, but the evidence is now incontrovertible - and I like that.

What next ?

I was interested to see your post about Mary Barker who is my gt gt grandmother. I have birth certificates for her 3 children Frederick William, Thomas and Sarah, but the father is not named on any of them!I also have a copy of her Marriage certificate to William Chadwick where she gives her 'condition' as widow and her father as Henry Todd ( deceased).
