As it seems such an unusual name I looked it up on Ancestry and in the general search there are only 8 births and 3 deaths in Lancashire and they are in Burnley, no sign of any in the 1901 census unless I am going through them with my eyes shut.

Hi Gloria, you are right, this is not a local name.

Sidney Athersuch can be seen in the WW2 soldiers (his sister lived at Harle Syke), and it seems that Sidney's father moved to Burnley in the early 1900's.

There is more on this family here viewtopic.php?f=11&t=36&start=15

The library sent me this.

A6387 was purchased by Percy Athersuch – constable. Clara, 1924 is the first burial followed by Percy Grenville Athersuch on 25/01/1937 aged 60 yrs, with Bessie in 1962 being the last internment in the grave.

I have researched the name Athersuch extensively. The main family Athersuch (of which I am member) are from the Coventry area, but there is another (probably unrelated) family Athersuch in Bristol from the early 1700's. Percy Grenville did indeed move to Burnley in the early 1900's from Bristol (he was born in Clifton in 1876 and was a saior before joining the Coldstream Guards in 1899 - 1914 when he was invalised out of the army and eventually joined the police and ended up as a police tailor. If you want more information I would be happy to send you a family tree. Sorry my online tree is offline at present thanks to some hackers compromising my webspace!
