Is anyone following the Parkers of Briercliffe.

1841 census

Daniel Parker 54 weaver

Marey Parker (nee Nuttall)54 weaver

Nancy Parker 24 weaver

Marey Parker 21 weaver

All born in county and living at Holt Hill Briercliffe. In later censuses and on certs the Mareys were spelt Mary. On IGI they were married 5th Oct 1809 Burnley, probably St Peters.
Daniel was buried 16th April 1849 at Haggate Baptist Chapel, it says he died at Holt Hill.
I cannot find any more info on Daniel, is anyone else following him?

I think I posted that info on the One Guy From Barlick website Bob. Anyone interested in Parkers should be aware that there is a thread about Parkers of Extwistle/Briercliffe at www.oneguyfrombarlick.co.uk

Just jumped across from the Sutcliffe marriages thread with this one, as this Mary Nuttall is the wife of Daniel Parker at the beginning of this thread.
On the paperwork you sent me Mel, it has Mary Nuttall bap 23rd Oct 1799 from Haggate baptist births.
In the details you have put for her in the church records, it says born 23rd Oct 1799.
Now the fun bit, I have their marriage 5th Oct 1809 St Peters Burnley from the microfilm. The paperwork says same date but St James PC Briercliffe.
Two things, if she was born 1799 she would only have been 9yrs at marriage, or, she was about that age when she was baptised.
Is it possible for you to check that it says baptised and not born 23rd Oct 1799?
Hope you understand that lot.
Just found something else which isn't quite right
The paperwork has her death 10th Oct 1870, buried at St James, Briercliffe.
I have her death 5th Jan 1854 buried Hill Lane, Lane Bottom. She is the mother-in-law in the grave with James Kippax and both his wives.

Gloria - the column with the date definitely says 'born on'. I haven't seen the original registers, these that I am working with are transcribed fiche copies.

The marriage can't be St James as it didn't open until 184?

Like I said before, there were obvious errors in the more recent research which painted a bit of a picture for me of how to regard the rest of the info.

Someone has done some summising with no proof I think. We can all do that. I don't think they are way off the mark, they just haven't proven it, so used a bit of poetic licence me thinks.
Isn't this genealogy a wonderful "hobby" ????????

I wonder what the original records said though?
Does anyone know where they are held?

On the headstone for James Kippax, his two wives and mother-in-law, there is a daughter Sarah Ellen died 5th Jan 1854 age 11yrs,and Mary Parker (mother-in-law)died 5th Jan 1854 age 67yrs.
In 1851 these two are living together at Holt Hill, Sarah Ellen is granddaughter but the surname is Nuttall. I have looked high and low for a Sarah Ellen Nuttall but cannot find a birth, but I can find Sarah Ellen Kippax, so I think that is just a mistake. They both died on the same date so I have sent for death certs, hoping that the one for Mary Parker whose husband was Daniel, may give her maiden name. Does anyone know if that is likely?
AND
If they both died at the same time, I can only think of fire----does anyone know of this------fire, Holt Hill, 5th Jan 1854????

I'd be surprised if the death certificate gives a maiden name, they don't usually.
As for cause of death, it could be a viral thing. They did seem to run through the family once one person was struck down.

Just seemed a coincidence both on the same day.
AND, I am clutching at straws with the maiden name on the death cert, still it might tell me something I don't know.
Posted your letter Mel, you should get it tomorrow.

Thanks Gloria

I received the Joshua birth cert. I have only gone and ordered the one I had already got! My mistake...the birth wasn't registered until October even though he was born in April. I saw April and though it's the other one I want....wrong!
Never mind. I will wait for Ellens marriage to arrive in the next couple of days before I have another go at Joshua. It might tell me something I don't expect.

Are we nuts...we are both living in hope knowing that we will be disappointed when the day comes.
