Hi
my name is Renie. I just joined because I was browsing thru' and saw someone had kindly posted some cemetary records and one of them was mine, I think, Hargreaves Sutcliffe. His wife was Mary Ann and they had 4 kids, one of them being my G-mother, Margaret Ellen Sutcliffe. They lived at 40 Hebrew Road,Burnley.
on the 1881 census.
Not knowing Burnley, I hope I'm in the right group. It would be great to hear from anyone who might be connected to my Sutcliffs.
thanks

Hi Renie, welcome to the site.

I've had a look at my file (I have a lot of interest in Sutcliffe) but I do not have a Hargreaves. Do you know if he was Burnley born?

I recently obtained a birth certificate for Margaret Bannister, a younger sister of my gt-grandfather. She was born in Burnley District (actually at Lane Head) in October 1839. The certificate appears to be a photocopy of the original entry in the register, signed by the registrar, one Thomas Sutcliffe: of course it is also signed by one of the present registrars. I have not found a Thomas Sutcliffe Registrar in Burnley in 1851 nor a plausible candidate in 1841, but it occurs to me that anyone who has an interest in the Sutcliffes might like to see Thomas' signature and perhaps to search more intensively than I have for the right Thomas.

Thanks for the info Charon10. Thomas Sutcliffe was registrar for a number of years prior to the very well known Robert Munn. I have several documents bearing his signature.

Off the top of my head, I believe he may be from a family who lived in the Brown Hills area though I do not have evidence to support this. I did once look into it but he was not of my tree so I did not create a file for him.
