My gt grandmother was Margaret Harley. She was born in Wolverhampton but moved to Burnley when she was about 14 following the death of both her parents. There she met and married my gt grandfather, Thomas Sutcliffe.

I have since discovered that her brother, Joseph, and his family moved to Padiham in about 1895. Josephs wife, Esther, died in 1909 and Joseph remarried in 1910 to Mary Alice Ashburner/Holden (She was a widow I think so one of these names is her maiden name and 1 will be her former married name). They lived in Accrington in 1911.

Joseph had several children. One, Margaret, married a John Robert Clarkson in 1901 in the Burnley district. They went on to have at least 2 children - Joseph (b.1902) and Arthur (b.1910). Margaret is listed as Margaret Harling on the LancsBMD marriages.

So - does anyone have any Harley's (or Clarksons) in the area that possibly connect to my Wolverhampton lot?

This is the 1891 and 1901 census for the family. Unfortunately I cannot show the 1911 for another year :( but Josehs younger children were all living with their sister, Margaret and her husband.

Hi Mel have been in touch with you once before via your email address.I know that you are related to Margaret & Thomas. I saw your posting of Joesph & Esther. Richard 1792 maried Elizabeth Davis. Joesph 1747 & Esther Gardiner 1750 are my 4 x great grandparents. Richards brother Isaac 1787 & Elizabeth Hallett 1791 are my 3 x great grandparents, they had a son William 1828 married Sarah Morris 1828 2 x grandparents. Their son James William 1854 married Jemima Arblaster 1858 great grand parents thier daughter Comfort 1892 married William Chandler 1897, all this is on my mothers side. In your posting you said you had the 1911 census. Could you help me out. James William died in 1895, on the 1901 census Jemima was a patient at Burntwood Asylum she was 43. I know she was in Lichfield Workhouse befor that, I know she remained there till her death at Burntwood. I have her medical records. I know what happened to her other children, but not Comfort and her brother John 1887 born Brownhills. Isaac b 1860 and his wife Rachel have them living with them on the 1901 census. I think John may have joined the army. Comfort married my grandfather in 1916, that what I want to know what she did from 1901 to it will only be 1911. She could have become servant like her sister Sarah Ann born 1877 Brownhill last known for her was 1901 census a servant Hamstead Rd Handsworth which comes under West Bromwich Comfort met my grandfather in Hamstead where he was living. I do have a copy of all my tree from Joesph and Esther to 1901 with all the said famlies and children if would like a copy Regards Sue

I'm confused Sue - where does Esther Hallett fit in?

On your first message you say Esther was called Gardiner, is there another Esther that I've missed?

Thanks for the emails.

Hi Mel,Joesph 1747 was married to Esther Gardiner born 1850. Joesph 1859 married Esther Hallett.1860. You have Esther Hallett's father William living with them on your census posting. My 3 x great grandparents Isaac 1787 married Elizabeth Hallett 1791. It was Esther Hallett and Elizabeth Hallett I thought could be related, they both came from Wolverhampton. Sue
