Rex, I see you are on line and you are good at this sort of thing. Have you seen the name Joseph shortened to John. I have an ancestor whose father is listed as John on his baptism record, but the only possible marriage I can find for his father is of a Joseph. Has anyone else got any thoughts on this? Gill |

Hi Gill. I've seen Jno which is either John or Jonathan, can't remember which ir even if it could be either. I've seen Joseph shortened to Jos. |

Gill, I don't remember any instance of Joseph being shortened to Jno. Jos could also be Joshua. Of course a parish clerk or minister or even a civil registrar could get a name wrong. Rex |
