I'm tracing my direct family and on my mother's side I have traced the Stanworth's right back to the 16th centuary. However, I am keen to find out more about specific member of the family who lived in Extwistle and Monk Hall. Henry Stanworth, born in Burnley in 1734 but dies in Extwistle on 29th June 1774. He was married to Ellen Butterworth who was born in Extwistle in 1739, and they had a son called James Stanworth who was born in Extwistle in June 1763. James married a woman called Nanny Smith in 1790 but we don't know anything more about her. I am interested to find out more about them, what it was like to live back then, what work they would have done, and the living conditions etc. Any information will be helpful and much appreciated. Thanks Mark |

Hi Mark, I am a direct descendant of another of Henry and Ellen Stanworth's sons, Benjamin christened 21st April 1765 St Peters Burnley. If you go onto the home page of this site, and then into family trees you will find my Stanworth tree. The Extwistle and Monk Hall areas of Briercliffe are quite bleak now, so life must have been very hard back then, more a matter of survival I would have thought, than a life. Do you know the area at all? Gloria |

Hi Gloria Thanks for the information. I've managed to get as far back to William who married Alice Parker, and then his father John, but it all starts to get blurry after that. How far back have you managed to get? You're not the same Gloria who wrote the thread about the Parkers are you? Starting at Alice, it then seemed to end at Johannes Parcarius. That was an amazing thread. We live in Haworth so we're just over the hill. My mum says that my gran (Mary Earnshaw Stanworth), who was the daughter of Thomas Dent Stanworth, always said that her side of the family had a very interesting story, and I'm beginning to think that might be the case. I know they owned and lived at Monk Hall for quite a while, but I want ot get a more detailed history f the family and the lives that they lived. Thanks again Mark |

If it is on this site then that Gloria is me. Have you seen the Johannes Parcarius tree submitted by Tim Hadfield and Richard Parker under family trees on the home page? Gloria |
