Sue, I think your Lawrence is the same one as mine. I don't know much about him as he is not in my direct line. I do believe however, that his father had the shop at the top of Haggate pictured on the homepage.

Yes...when I first came on-line you mentioned this. At that time, I wasn't sure of anybody in my line beyond my great-grandfather, Lawrence's brother, John Robert. So, this means your husband is related to me?
Here's where my father's 'spiderweb' comes in, as he calls it.

Not my husband, ME, but only through in-laws/marriage.
Lawrence Halstead married my gt grandmother Martha Ann's sister Maggie. So Maggie would be my gt gt aunt ( I think)
Your gt grandfather John Robert is Lawrence's brother. So Lawrence would be your gt gt uncle.

I received an email query a couple of weeks ago from Dr. Peter Halstead.

I am researching my family tree. My grandfather - Halstead Halstead is buried in the church yard with my grandmother Mabel Halstead (nee Holgate).
I would be interested to hear of any older relatives of them you might have recorded. i think that the older members - my great grandfather Robert Halstead was buried in Haggate cemetery.
My father\'s cousin - Dorothy Holgate - still attends the church and I am in regular contact with her.
I would also be interested in details of old vicars of the church from 1945 - present. Obviously, i know the present vicar.

THE OLDEST MEMBER.
Mr. James Halstead (senior), of 9, Cross-street, Harle Syke, who is in his 83rd year, is the oldest member of Haggate Baptist Chapel, having been elected a member on December 28th, 1879. He was appointed a deacon on September 17th, 1882, and an elder on January 1st, 1911. He has acted as pastor since the death of Mr. James Ogden, in March, 1928, up to the commencement of his illness last November. Mr. Halstead has been church secretary for over 30 years, and still occupies that position. He attended the old chapel in his younger days, and was a teacher in the school, and recollects his uncle, Mr. Lawrence Halstead, walking from Sandygate every Sunday to teach in the school at nine o'clock in the morning. Another recollection he has of the old days is of old Mr. John Hudson, of Brierfield, sitting on the top step of the pulpit with an ear-horn to listen to the sermon.
