Jane Leaver, the one mentioned above, b. 23 August 1830, parents were James Leaver b. 9 April 1798 at Hill End and Betty Nuttall. Ruth gives a date of marriage, 11 June 1818, but unfortunately there is no church mentioned.

I think this will possibly be St Peters at St James would not be open and I don't think Haggate had the licence to perform marriages that far back.

Mel, Peter and Ruth Taylor sent this information to me a while back. Speaking of the update back in November, do you have any information on this?

Kris, I worked through Peter's list at the library a couple of weeks ago. I did find some of the people he mentions and I posted the baptisms/ marriages on (i think) 10 June.

Maureen, I found these links just now. We have no record of an Elizabeth Leaver b. at Briercliffe circa 1814

It looks like Elizabeth might have married a Baldwin before she became a Halstead

Name Year of Registration Quarter of Registration District County
Elizabeth Baldwin 1840 Oct-Nov-Dec Burnley Lancashire, West Riding Of Yorkshire
James Halstead 1840 Oct-Nov-Dec Burnley Lancashire, West Riding Of Yorkshire

Kris, we have a Betty Leaver, born 19/7/1813. I don't have time to check it out right now but could it be her?

Maureen, I was just about to post this…..

According to the parish records on the main site there was a Betty Leaver born 19 July 1813. She was the child of Bannister and Betty of Batty Hole in Briercliffe (Haggate Baptist).

According to this website, Elizabeth Leaver and James Halstead had a son named Bannister Halstead, born circa 1849 at Briercliffe.

Ps the Rootsweb family in the link show Elizabeth with children (amongst others) named Bannister & Olive. The Betty I mention has siblings with those names

Maureen, it looks like she is definitely the same one. I have added the Halstead census here - viewtopic.php?f=22&t=1386

Just dashed into the library while I was out, to find the marriage, then when I did it looked familiar. I already got it when we were in the libarary a few weeks ago. I should hve checked for a posting under marriages but I was in a rush. Anyway:

When – 16 October 1838
Where – St Peter’s Church Burnley
Groom James Halstead (minor), bachelor, weaver, Sandbeds Briercliffe
Bride – Elizabeth Leaver (full) Spinster, of Blackhouse Lane Briercliffe
Grooms father – William Halstead, weaver
Brides father – Bannister Leaver, weaver
