In a word, no. It's not on the tree. I just added 1891 (above). Will keep looking. So far the only marriage I'm coming up with is 1883: LEAVER James BANNISTER Emma Burnley Register Office or Registrar Attended Record at Preston (reg no RM/56/76) ps - just looked up Emma Bannister 1881 census. Certainly the age is right for her to be the Emma Leaver we're looking at. |

Not sure if this is Rennie, the address of the second Will is nearly the same as the 1891 Census 1891 RG12; Piece: 3371; Folio 158; Page 36 50 Burnley road , Briercliffe 1948 – LEVER Rennie of 3 Causeyfoot, Nelson, Lancashire died 1 June 1947 at the Royal Infirmary Blackburn. Administration Lancaster 9 July to Henry Lever, retired company director. Effects £2,353 1960 - LEAVER Rennie Stewart of 52 Burnley Road, Harle Syke near Burnley died 19 July 1960 at West Cornwall Hospital, Penzance. Administration Manchester 17 August to Olga Mary Leaver, widow. Effects £1,087 16s. 3d. |

Ignore what I said (above) about Betty Kippax - her son was John not James. The James on the census was a lodger. Those wills, Rennie Stewart was a different Rennie S Leaver, approx same age. He's already on your tree (son of James Leaver/ Margaret Jane Heap.) 1901 census, Rennie Stewart shows up as just Rennie. Rennis S on that census is Rennie Shea. Confusing or what? |

It's a woman's prerogative to change her mind. I'm back to thinking the James we're looking for is the son of Betty Leaver who married James Kippax. (There's a thread about this somewhere but I can't find it ) We know Betty had 3 children before she was married. They're all on 1871 with her at Lane Bottom. RG10; Piece: 4152; Folio: 18; Page: 30 James Kippax 53, head, marr, sizer - cotton mill, born Briercliffe Betty Kippax 40, wife, marr, Joshua Kippax 19, son, single, weaver William Kippax 16 , son, single, weaver, born Briercliffe Barnnster (Banister) Kippax 5, son, scholar, born Briercliffe John Leaver 19, nephew, single,weaver, born Briercliffe Willy Leaver 15, nephew, weaver, born Briercliffe Jimmy Leaver 12, nephew,born Briercliffe All three Leaver boys are described as nephews. Perhaps it was because they didn't understand the concept of step-relationship. I'm pretty sure we've identified all the Johns & the Jameses born Briercliffe. So he has to be one of the loose end ones. My money's on Betty's son. |

Now I have the marriage certificate I am content that the James in question is the illegitimate son on Betty Kippax (nee Leaver) The name, age and absence of a father's name from the marriage certificate are all consistent with this.
