I wish I'd listened more carefully to adult conversations. Why wasn't Sarah buried with her husband in Burnley? Maybe she was cremated and her ashes either scattered on his grave or elsewhere. Maybe the grave was already full. It is amazing how many of my relatives are not buried with husbands or wives. |

Don't we all! I think it's possible that the grave was full. He was the 4th to go in. I suppose it could have been a case of cost back then. Why pay for a new plot when there's space in an existing one? Would they have had to pay to cross county borders if her body hadb een transported back to Burnley? |

Ordered. Roll on this time next week, fun post instead of business mail, bills and junk! Out of curiosity - do you know if the daughter worked - what she did? Could she have been a nurse? (Crossing fingers that the answer is yes and that another puzzle is solved!) |

Sorry, don't know what Alice did. She didn't work when I knew her. I know her husband Alwyn was an accountant. I don't think expense would have been a factor in transfering her across county borders because they were very comfortable financially. Gill |

A little more digging and I've found that (unless they have gone abroad) the daughter of Alwyn and Alice is still living and has 2 sons. |

A huge thank you to Gill. Not only has she provided me with titbits of info, it turns out she also had a picture of Sarah Hart, nee Sutcliffe - my gt grandfathers sister! I'm like the cat that got the cream right now! |

I assume this is the reason Sarah went to live with her daughter in Stockport Burnley Express Saturday 04 September 1954 Badly Injured Last Night Receiving severe head injuries when she was involved in a collision with a car in Scotland-road, Nelson, yesterday evening, Mrs Sarah Hart (78), of 434. Briercliffe-road, Harle Syke, Burnley, was stated to be 'extremely ill', at Reedyford Hospital last night. The car was driven by Mr Edward Parker, Lee Nook, Roughlee. |

Burnley News Wednesday 13 June 1928 Cherry-Hart Interesting Wedding at Hanover Church Hanover United Methodists Church, Burnley, was the scene of a pretty wedding yesterday afternoon. The contracting parties were Mr Alwyn Cherry A.C.A., only son of Mr. and Mrs. Wm Cherry, 63, Thursby-rd, and Miss Alice Hart, elder daughter of Mrs Hart of 31. Claughton-street, and the late Mr J.F.S.Hart. Much interest was taken in the ceremony, which was performed by the Rev. Stanley Luke, both the bride and bridegroom having been intimately associated with Hanover, the former as member at one time of the choir, and the latter as teacher, finance treasurer, and school secretary. Since leaving school 11 1/2 years ago, Mr Cherry has been with the firm of Proctor and Proctor, chartered accountants, of Burnley and Manchester. The bride, who was given away by her brother, Mr Ernest Hart, wore white crepe-de-chine embroidered with silver beads. She had a coronet of orange blossom with an embroidered veil, and carried a bouguet of lilies and roses. She was attended by Miss Elizabeth Hart, her sister, and Miss Edna Hart, her cousin, who were both attired in pink crepe-de-chine embroidered with silver. Each had a blck picture hat and a bouquet of pink roses. Mr Irvin T Sanderson, friend of the bridegroom, carried out the duties of best man, and Mr R Hart, brother of the bride, and Mr Harry Crawshaw were the groomsmen. Mr W Smith, Junr., played appropriate music on the organ. After the ceremony a reception was held in Hanover School. Mr and Mrs Cherry have received many handsome and useful presents. The honeymoon is being spent at KEswick. On their return they will reside at Prestwich, Manchester. |
