Not quite sure where to post this, but here goes.

When I can't sleep at night, I don't count sheep, but sometimes I 'collect' types of local (Burnley area, roughly) placenames. Odd but it seems to work, despite my brain needing to be active !

In this connection, can anyone add to the following list of 'den' names ? Meaning 'valley'.

Trawden Marsden Cockden Walverden Thursden Swinden Holden (two I think) Barden (formerly Byerden) Ogden. Nearby in Yorkshire are Alcomden Stiperden Todmorden Colden Hebden Erringden Ponden Luddenden.

Also we have 'Dean' or 'Dene', as in Wycoller Walshaw Crimsworth.

As another example, 'Eaves', meaning the side of a hill. Habergham Wiswell Bashall Grindleton Waddington, also Oakeneaves.

Got to keep the grey matter working !
