Hi

Does anyone have access to the original burial records for Haggate Baptist Chapel?

There's a gravestone (https://www.briercliffesociety.co.uk/Gr ... rnton8.htm) that shows William died June 17th 1853 and Catharine died July 21st 1853.

But the transcripts on the society's pages give conflicting dates: William buried 20th July 1853 and Catharine buried 24th June 1853 age 48

Help to resolve the conflict gratefully appreciated

Dave

I did about half the Haggate transcriptions about 35 years ago ! I have all the paper transcripts, births and burials, from which the online indexes were made. For these THORNTONs, the Society transcripts agree.

Checking on the General Register Office site, Catharine is recorded in the Apr to June quarter, and William in the July to Sept one.

Hope this helps !

Rex

Hi Rex,

Thanks very much for your help.

It resolves the conflicting dates. The months on the gravestone must be interchanged.

The GRO site shows Catherine's age as 56 years, which matches the gravestone and is consistent with her age of 54 in the 1851 census, so it appears that the burial register has the incorrect age.

Dave
