This may not be news to you in England, but the British Library has digitized newspapers from the 19th century and has made them available online at no cost for a short period.
The web address I have didn't work for me but they can be accessed by typing Global Gazette in Google, and on the opening page for Friday March 14th the fifth item down has a link to the site.
Global Gazette is a newletter published in Ontario. So far I've looked only at Ashton-under-Lyne information but there might be Burnley/Briercliffe items.
