Hi - does anyone know anything about NewHouse as some of my family, The Waterworths, lived there over several years. I would be pleased to hear the exact location and also if anyone has any memories - so that I can build a picture - that is assuming no one has a picture - or have they?
Regards
ChrissyB

There are several references to Newhouse in Roger Frosts book Chrissy. When I have time I will let you have the information ,but it dates back to 1672 and stood on the lower slopes of Bouslworth on some flat lands above Thursden. It was occupied for almost 250 years and all that remains of a substantial structure is the doorway.

David has sent me some pictures that he took this morning. I'll try to add them later today. I'm hoping to figure out what the carvings on the stone say.

Yes that is the arched doorway and that photo was taken on a much nicer day than today by a professional photographer :)
I will e mail you the writing on the top stone Mel as best as I can read it.The bottom inscription is too worn to read.

Just a thought...didn't any new houses built in the area get labelled as 'New House' until they were well established?

Thanks everyone for your input - it's difficult to visualise the area and how the people lived there when I don't live in the area. The pictures that David sent to me are wonderful - Thank You
