Looking for any possible info for an area shown as Reedley Leath on a birth listing for Haggate Baptist for Betty Hoyle b 16 Mar 1791 dau of John and Susan.
The family are still listed in the same place on the birth of their son Richard in 1796.
Thanks for any ideas.
Gilly

Gilly, I have lived in Reedley and have never heard of Reedley Leath, but I googled it and found this.
RootsWeb: LANCSGEN-L Re: [LAN] WAS DIXON NOW HOYLE16th March 1791 Betty dau of John and Susan Hoyle of Reedley leath ,Little Marsden 24th August 1794 John son of John and Susan Hoyle of Reedley leath ...

It says Reedley Leath in Reedley Hollows which is at the bottom of Barden Lane.

Little Marsden joined Briercliffe not far from Haggate.

Thank you Gloria, I did not think of searching the archives.

We queried this with Roger last night. He thinks it should be Reedley Laithe. This was a farm. Gloria may be able to be more specific as to its location, it didn't stick in my mind as the roads and areas mentioned are very unfamiliar to me.

I think he said it would be in Reedley Hallows, down by Duckpits, which is at the bottom of Barden Lane.
Apparently the word laithe means a farmhouse with a barn and dairy attached as opposed to a farmhouse with separate barn.

He said it was on Marsden Rd, quite near to the Marsden Cross pub, but I have never heard of it. The people who now have it contacted him regarding its history.
I am not 100% convinced it is Reedley Laithe.

I have looked on Old Maps and cannot see a Reedley Laithe anywhere in the Marsden Rd area. Reedley Hallows does however extend up that way.
