Robert Sutcliffe died in January 1885, his wife Elizabeth died in 1884. They were living at Anne St in Burnley at the time of their deaths but hailed from Briercliffe and Extwistle respectively.
They are not in Burnley cemetery or St James in Briercliffe.

Any suggestions?

There was a church just down Todmorden Rd on the left, it is a church no more. I think it was a wood warehouse, there was a big fire there a few years ago-----sorry cannot think of the name of it. I have looked on multimap and it is directly opposite Hull St, but there doesn't look to be a graveyard. If there is it is only small.

Hi Mel, Anne Street is in the Todmorden Road area of Burnley, why not try Google to see what churches there were in that area in the 1880's, it might be worth a look :)

Thanks Gloria and Stephanie.

I have had a look on google, lfhhs and genuki.
Current possibilities are St James in Burnley and Bethesda Street Independent.
I'm at the library tomorrow for a couple of hours so I'll have a look to see if there was a mention in the paper, I have the date of death. If there was then it will say where burial took place. If there's not then I guess it is just a matter of trawling through the various burials grounds in the area at some point.

Gloria, were you thinking of St Catherines?

Maybe at Haggate since they were from Briercliffe.

Transcribed register doesn't come this far, but it is on microfilm at Burnley Library.

Found them. :D

They are at Haggate in the old part. No stone now (if ever there was) but at least I now have an idea.
