Hi
Have got a little mystery here. MARTHA JANE SAGAR was born @ 1858 (supposedly Burnley), she married JOHN ROE 1875 in Burnley. On the cert there is no father's name, therefore, I presumed that she was illegitimate. Found a birth in 1857 for MARTHA SAGAR to ELIZABETH SAGAR (no father named) so I presumed that this was the lady I was looking for. It turns out to be not so as her mother married a year later and 1881 census show MARTHA still living with her mother and stepfather. I found 2 births for MARTHA JANE SAGAR one in 1858 to (I think) to WHITTHAM SAGAR and SUSAN SIMSPSON, the second was in 1861 to RICHARD SAGAR and HENRIETTA POLLARD (Barrowford). If this one turned out to be correct then Martha would have only been 14/15 when she married. The confusion I have is that there is no father named on the marriage cert. Has anyone out there ever come across any of the names above which may throw some light on the mystery. Also, has anyone come across a RICHARD SAGAR (b nk) born in Scotland? Any help would be gratefully received
