What was the Dr Muir Medal?

It is mentioned in the old Syker article here http://www.briercliffesociety.co.uk/ThO ... 20Shop.htm and it says both “Harold Leaver and Arthur Leaver, brothers” won it.

Portia asked John Bentley at the last meeting.
Dr Muir was the village G.P. and the first Chairman of the Parish Council
The medals were awarded for the best achievers at school.

Lyndon doesn't do Christmas....I had nothing from him. I can have any time of the year though. :wink:

Mainly a commercial thing. He is agnostic though.

I always buy a bit of something for him and he always moans at me for doing it.

Must admit to being the same. We decorate and give pressies but don't do the religious thing, suppose that is a bit hypocritical though. :?

Lyndon does none of it though he enjoys his Christmas dinner. I was the one who bought the tree and decs etc. I sent cards once to the people he used to work with, they'd never had one from him before.

I don't think we will be sending any cards or pressies next year. I am thinking of sending a donation to charity instead. I dropped a couple from the list this year and sent a small donation.

That is getting very popular, instead of sending cards, giving a donation to a charity.
I try to buy charity cards to send.

I've always sent charity cards, I favour animal charities.

People spend such a lot of money at Christmas and I think half the time it's either on unwanted gifts or useless novelties.

Having spoken to some of those who I spend our cash on, they all seem to be in favour of the charity route. I have told one or two that I do not want presents next year unless it is in the form of the Oxfam Unwrapped gifts.

Going through the Newsletter archive this morning, I read that both these medals are in the possession of the Society. The Newsletter I refer to is not yet on the site, it is dated 1997. All it says is that The Society received them from the late Mrs Leaver. Harold received his in 1921 and Arthur in 1923-4.
