I have the land and owners' details of a family property going back to the 1870's but would like to find out if possible who some of the tenants were during the period up to about 1924, from then on it appears that the house has been owner occupied. Can anyone advise? |

You should be able to find this on the census up to 1901 Judi. |

Mel, but how can you find the census address if you don’t have a surname? I would like to find census information for my area of London but I don’t know where to start. |

There is a description of the enumeration district on Ancestry. I would think it would be more difficult with a city as big as London though. |

I have spent the day cringing with embarrassment after Mel's response clearly indicated I should know how to find things...well I did eventually via Ancestry looking at individual census years and putting in the county, town and the parish details which I know. I soon found the street via the parish and was then able to scroll back or forward until I had the house number I needed. I feel I am in good company if the Willfinder, ie very smart person was also questioning this. Regards J. |

Don't worry Judi, we've all done that, and we've all cringed---my excuse is age |

Yes, it is very difficult to find random streets in the London census. I probably need to do some more research as this part of London was most likely a small village in the 1851 / 1861 census, and most of the streets probably didn’t even exist at the time.
