Babies who were stiillborn were not registered in the normal way ie there is no birth/death certificate. There is however, a Stillbirth Register, which has been previously mentioned in this thread. If I remember correctly to obtain details from this register you have to put request in writing and I think you need to be a relative of the child.

Thank for all the replies and suggestions.I am going to send for the Birth and Death Certificates of Frederick Procter as suggested earlier. My father had a brother called Frederick who was killed in the Great War. I wonder if my Dad called his son after his deceased brother. Worth a try I think. It will only cost £14 for the 2 certificates and it will certainly put my mind at rest with regard to this event long ago. I will let you know what I find Thank you all again.

You should also contact Accrington Library to see if Elizabeth Procter has an obituary. If she does, it will probably mention the funeral director. Chances are the same company did Elizabeth’s and the baby’s funeral, if so, perhaps the company still exists and they can be contacted for early records.

I took the advice that Gloria gave and sent for the Certs for Frederick Procter. They arrived today but unfortunately it is not my relative.I am becoming a bit disheartened that I will ever find the answer to my quest. Iwill try Accrington Library again to see if there is anything in the newspapers around Jan 1926.I will also write to the Vicarage at Rishton Parish Church to see if they kept any record of of a Religious Ceremony for my brother/sisters death. The list of possible solutions is growing shorter but I will keep going until all the lines of enquiry have been exhausted. If only my Dad had told me all about this terrible event before he died. But I cant condemn him because he must have been absolutely devastated losing his child and then his wife in the space of three weeks.
If anyone has any further suggestions I would be very appreciative Thank You all.

Sorry you didn't get a result James. Hopefully the library or Rishton Parish Church will be able to answer your questions.
