Does anyone know what information is given on a Catholic baptism? Would it name godparents?

I suppose I should ask mum really as she is a catholic but it's a little early yet.

When I was helping a friend with her family tree we went to the Library to look at St Mary Catholic Church baptismal records. They gave the sponsors names (Godparents) and in some cases Mum's maiden name. All in all they had more info than C/E ones.

Thanks Maggie. What era was that? I'm interested in the 1870's through to the early 1900's.

I need to go to Birmingham I think to take a look at these.

Think it was about 1870s to 1900s.

I'm not knocking down any walls unfortunately but I am hoping that something may give me a clue for where to look in Co. Mayo.

I found a child I was not aware of who was born and died in between census and I have found a marriage that I did not know about.

Looking at the earlier records today so they will be the ones with a clue, if there is a clue!
