Following my trips to Birmingham Diocese Archives, I have discovered that 3 sisters went off, with their families, to the USA after the 1901 census. One of these sisters was single. One sister was married here in the UK before leaving but remarried in the US so her 1st husband died somewhere before 1916.
One of the these families went in 1905, I have been given the 1920 US census by some kind person on the message boards.

It's the death I mention that I am currently interested in. I cannot find anything on Freebmd and I have no means to look on the US death index at the moment (I am considering a one month upgrade to blitz the records on Ancestry).
I am wondering if he attempted to make the trip to the US and died at sea. I had a look at the Findmypast collection but the 'deaths at sea' collection only goes to 1890.

Does anyone know where I might find a death at sea for 1905+ please?

I think the death is registered in the country to which the ship belongs.

I have found an Ellis Island entry for the remarried sister. It seems she travelled alone (according to ships manifest) so her husband must have died before the journey began.

Married in 1903 in Newcastle under Lyme. I have no census for him

His wife/widow travelled alone and listed herself as single so its now probable that he died before the trip. I couldn't find anything locally though.
