Kris, I remember having a little pair of clogs when I was about 3 or 4 years of age around 1950, they were a dark green colour. I remember my Dad repairing his own clogs in the early 50's he was a bus conductor then. In the early days all walks of life wore clogs because they were far cheaper than shoes, but in the late 1940's big shoe manufacturers sparang up every where making the cost of shoes come down in price. The clogs then became the dearer option and of course they were not as attractive, so the sale of clogs dropped. Dont know of many people now wearing clogs except perhaps the clog dancers. The wearing of clogs in the early days was beneficial to the individual due to working conditions in the mills and farms etc. But there was nothing quite like the clatter of clogs on cobbles as the mills and factories finished for the day and the workers made their way home. I can actually remember it, how ancient does that make me eh!
So to answer your question, I think the general wear of clogs stopped about 50 odd, nearly 60 years ago.
