My Great Great lived at the above two houses:- 36,Rowley Street, Habergham Eaves and 17, Lawn Street, Burnley (which might have been called Hawthorn Cottage), In attempting to get photographs of the locations I understand that both houses have been knocked down which at least will save me an unnecessary journey. Iis anybody able to tell me whether this was a safety issue or road improvements etc please ? |

Rowley Street, was off Trafalgar Street. All the houses on one side were demolished and replace with high rise flats, which have also since been demolished and replace with a small estate and a McDonalds. On the other side, which backs on to the canal, was mills, a couple of public houses and a school. Most of these buildings are still there, in the middle a mill was demolished and is now a large petrol garage, this is roughly opposite where Rowley Street would have been. Lawn Street was and still is, according to an aerial view dated 2007, off Colne Road, behind and old church, which has since become a mosque. Also according to 1914 Barretts Directory, 17 Lawn Street was known as Hawthorne Cottage. This area backs on to where Bank Hall Pit was, which as since been landscaped and turn in to a park. Whether no.17 is still there is hard to tell from the aerial view. |

Have just used the new update on Google maps, number 17 Lawn Street is still there! Unfortunately as this is a street view you can't see the front of the house. |
