:? Anybody know if there are any photo's in Roger's books or anywhere , of the family including John and Margaret Banks of Jubilee St. I believe the family were well known tailors, living and working up there for many generations?

I think Roger mentioned a tailors on Jubilee St when we went to the meeting on wed. I don't remember the name Banks being mentioned though.

I don't remember the name getting a mention either. I can't say that there are any pictures of families in Rogers book?

I have found the grave at Haggate of John and Margaret, but am now trying to work out, if they had been well known for a couple of generations, would there be pictures of the business and the 'tailors' somewhere that hasn't occured to me yet :?:

It might be worth contacting Roger to ask if there is anything in the Society collection. Also, I know Colne library has all kinds of wonderful photos....maybe Burnley do too? Then again, Colne could have images that cover Burnley area?

:? Slow progress but one of John's brothers, name of Elijah is recorded as the grocer at 69 Burnley Rd in 1901, have found this photo in your archive of photo's :D

John is shown as a ' Mill director 'in Harle Syke in 1901, I had completly forgotten the mills which are on the main road!!

Have found John's father on 1851 census. He was Robert a tailor, who's brother Thomas lived with them and was also a tailor. Thomas was still single in his 60's

Folks must have been posh then, three generations of tailors and Elijah's daughter Etta was a milliner in Haggate?
It must have been a very self contained area?
