"John Kippas in templo Novemb 16" as a burial record.

"In templo"? Seems to be literally "in the temple" or "in the church". Any suggestions as to what this is getting at?

Just looked on my database of Kippaxs, I have that but just as a burial. I wonder if he was buried in the church, in templo---in temple???

That's what the Latin seems to signify, yeah. However, I'm very weak on my Latin endings these days, so not sure whether it's "he died in church" or "he is buried in church". Mind you, for all I know it could be "he will have be going to have been buried in church" or "he was buried in church in the future."

Latin's so confusing. Far too many tenses!

It's quite useful from time to time with old Parish Registers, I find. I'm glad I had the experience that stops it from being a scary leap into the dark :)

I'm sure it means buried in the church, not uncommon for more imporatnt people in those early times.

Nil desperandum.

Google have now added Latin to the list of languages that can be translated into English.
