Jackie,

I have no doubt at all that the 1602 Kepas marriage is correct, but it was the 1578 that has me confused!

I'm flipping between sites at the moment and also found this

Jenet Hargreaves Birth: About 1581 Of 1marsden, , Lancashire, England
Marriages:
Spouse: John Kepas Family
Marriage: 24 JUN 1602

So that gives indication of her birth.

I'll keep going... Jackie

Jackie,

Thanks for that.

The Parishes registers only go back to 1599, so a baptismal date for John this early would be unfeasible. What often happens with those LDS records is that the compilers stick an arbitarily estimated date of birth on any couple who married; generally around 24 for a man and around 22, if memory serves, for a woman.

In reality, John could be born at any point between 1527 and 1586! His wife Jeneta, however, would be more closely fixed to a 1568-1586 birth.

Stephen, the marriage is on the spread sheet I sent to you.
If you haven't managed to open it yet I think you can download Microsoft Works Database for nothing.

Gloria,

Thanks - I do have the marriage (it was one of the ones I wrote up myself). It was the estimated births I was querying.

Time's limited at the moment, but I do hope to get some time to access your database within a couple of days!!

Gloria, the below reference is actually for 1643 - we were both wrong!!

Stephen, did I send you a copy of a spreadsheet of Kippax family? Not everything I have found is on there but what you have got from St Bartholomews is. I have found on it
Henric baptised St Bartholomews 1st Jan 1642 father Richardi --- all their spelling. This must be the Henry you have baptised 1st Jan 1641.
I spent ages a year or two back with bits of paper for each of these Kippaxs, trying to get them in some sort of order, and as you have probably done--I got a headache.

Stephen, the year didn't start until March in those days so the Jan was still in 1842------or have I completely lost the plot? If you tab down 1843 begins 25th March.

Hi - I have come across this post during research into a branch of the Kippax family that included John Kippax Rector of Brington (Cambs) (died 1778) and John Kippax his father who was Archdeacon of the Isle of Man (died 1760). I have got back to the Rector's great grandfather Richard Kippax born in Burnley in 1655 and died 1724 (also ordained - Curate at Padiham, Rector at Burnley). He is described as son of john Kippax of Marsden in the Oxford Alumni records, and I wondered if you knew which John this is please - is it one in your very comprehensive list! Any info you can give would be much appreciated as I am making a family tree for a display in our church above the tombs of John (Rector) and John (Archdeacon). Thanks so much!

How I wish these ancestors could have been a bit more imaginative with their children's names----John, Richard, William and Edward!!!!!.
I have a good book by W. Bennett titled "The History of Marsden and Nelson" which gives a lot of references to the Kippax family of old. It mentions in 1500's many Marsden Boys had become monks at Whalley among them were John Kippax of Scholefield, and it refers to The Marsden Chantry (in c1550) now St Pauls, being given to the trustees one of whom is John Kippax of Scholefield, to "look after the spiritual needs of the people of Little Marsden". --well worth getting hold of one of these.
Also, I have a book of Registers of Parish Church Of Colne 1599-1653 which just misses Richard born 1655.
Johes Kepas (various spellings) of Marsden bapt 7th Jan 1635, died clerk LM 30th March 1700, married ? they had amongst others
Richard Kippax (various spellings) of Wycollar bapt 9th Nov 1655.
If you PM me your e-mail address I can send you more of what we have.

Hi....Im just wondering if your ancestors are the Kippaxs from Scholefield. The Kippaxs from Scholefield go back many years and they apparently came from Yorkshire. Scholefield lane below Halifax Rd ran past the farm, which used to run right down to Walverden farm on Brunswick St in Nelson, Scholefield lane did infact used to be called Kippax lane and was from Little Marsden in the 14th Century onwards.

I am pretty sure they are the same family. I and Steve, have tried to link James Kippax (c1719) to this family through Edward (1696 of Little Marsden). I think we have done it by process of elimination --we cannot find anyone else his father could have been. This Edward links directly to the Scholefield Kippaxs.
There is quite a bit about them in Barratts History of Marsden but I don't think it mentions them as coming from Yorkshire, I have no doubt they did because of the name. Do you have proof they originated in Yorkshire?

Scholefield Kippaxes? I don't think I remember having traced back to these people!
